Welcome to my blog! My name is Amanda and I'm so glad you've found my page. Before we really get into all the fun stuff I wanted to introduce myself and give a little background to my story.
Let's go back first to June of 2021, My husband and I had just had our first baby. A little boy, named Tucker. We were living in a perfect house in the town we both loved. My husband's job was providing us with more than enough money to live very comfortably. We had our own little routine and life was amazing. Then one day when Tucker was four months old we started to notice black spots had formed overnight all over our carpet. We investigated further and realized it was, in fact, black mold. It had infested our entire house from the basement up. We hadn't noticed anything except a weird smell, but we blamed that on old carpet. So now with a four month old, no assets and no real money in our savings we had to immediately pack up what we could salvage and leave our home.
We were able to find what we thought would be a good starter home within a month of us losing our first home. We emptied our savings to get it and moved in hopeful for our new future.
Within a week of us settling into our new home, problems started to arise. As it continued to get colder out we quickly realized we couldn't stay in this house. There was no way it was fit for anybody to live in, especially a six month old child. So, feeling absolutely defeated and almost giving up hope, we packed up our belongings once again. This time we were fortunate enough to be able to stay at my parent's camp, a falling apart house with no live able bedrooms, half a kitchen and very limited hot water. The kitchen was only equipped with a mini fridge and a hardly working oven who's stove top worked when it wanted to. With no money and no options we were very grateful to have a place to stay. The house's living room was our bedroom, dining room, and living room. We had mattresses on the floor that we moved during the day to clear up some space. In March of 2023 I gave birth to our daughter, A beautiful little girl we named Daisy.
By that time the real estate market was quickly climbing, houses were getting more and more expensive. It seemed like we were hitting setback after setback when it came to us getting out of there and getting back into our own home. When we finally were at a place we could start putting offers on houses we were getting outbid left and right. Trying to compete in a market where houses are going for double to triple what they costed just a year ago, and being outbid by thousands every time we thought this would finally be it took it's toll. We celebrated Tucker's second birthday and tried to stay positive and keep a smile on our faces. To say we felt like failures as parents was an understatement, we couldn't even provide our children with something as basic as their own bedrooms. Then one day this cute little blue house came on the market, we were there looking at it within a few hours of it being up for sale. We immediately put an offer on it, not expecting anything to actually happen. The size of the house was definitely a concern, but we were desperate. After being turned down for as many houses as we had, and going on over a year of us all trying to exist in one room together, we desperately needed something, anything. As luck would have it, our offer was accepted! We were so relieved and overjoyed, it felt like an eternity waiting for closing day to come. The day we finally signed the last of the paperwork and were given our keys almost didn't feel real. The nightmare we had been living in for almost two years was almost over. We finally were being given a chance to give our kids an actual home to live in.
So even though our family is about to be a family of five soon, our little 900 square foot house has truly become our home. This blog is dedicated to sharing our journey as we transform our small space to fit three growing children. To share recipes and DIY ideas, to document our journey as we transform our small yard into a place to relax and where the kids can play.
